Visual Identity for “Survivalist”

According to the interview with Kerry James Marshall and William C. Rhoden, art is more essential to life than sport, but relative to capital gain, grooming young Black athletes became more essential based on their need to survive and thrive in this society.

So, it’s Nikk’s former teachers would encourage him to pursue sports, but as he continued to will myself into becoming an artist, he’s constantly discovering the connection with both professions. The artist and the athlete are fueled by survival and the expectation to innovate, breaking both capitol and idealistic barriers. The act of survival IS innovation. The survivalist IS an innovator.

Nikkolos Mohammed’s solo exhibition, “Survivalist’ became a response to this narrative and the visual identity acts as the frictional response toward innovation and survival regardless of societal expectations.
