Welcome!

The idea of feeling welcomed and being welcomed differs, whether it’s through a digital platform or in a physical space. With this project called, Welcome!, I decided to express that idea through creating a series of doormats since it is a primary vehicle that can be used to express what is behind the greeting, passed the “door”.

Social media serves as the doormat for the millennial generation today. These platforms encourage users to primarily express generic, simple and sometimes inauthentic interpretations of our lives, while the value of our personal narratives lies in the positive AND negative tension that we experience. Our digital doormats should embrace the complexity of our unique lives and celebrate the highs, lows, and in-betweens. The doormat is your first impression, but more importantly, your lasting one.
